JOB REQUIREMENTS FOR WELDER FABRICATOR
- Weld components in flat, vertical or overhead positions
- Operate welding equipment, safety equipment and use safe work habits
- Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and materials prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers and rulers
- Assemble metal parts or products
- Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
- Measure dimensions of completed products to verify conformance to specifications
- Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment
- Weld separately or in combination using aluminum, steel and other alloys
- Clamp, hold, tak-weld, heated grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding
- Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods and flux, according to welding chart specs or types and thicknesses of metals
- Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks and other identifying marks as required
- Develop templates and models for welding projects using mathematical calculations based on blueprint information
- Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify Lead
- May be required to lift & carry heavy objects, work under conditions of restricted movement, dirty environment, air contamination, intense noise and hazardous materials
- Analyze plans, drawings, work samples, specifications and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of welding assignments
- Crosstrain and/or accept responsibilities in areas not related to your trade eg. Millwrighting, machining
- Repair and install equipment
- Design, fabricate joins various types of metal objects and structures using TIg, oxygen-acetylene and other welding techniques
- Operate grinders, lathes, bandsaw, overhead cranes & other welding equipment and hand tools as necessary
- Chip or grind off excess weld, slag or spatter. Remove rough spots from workpieces.
- Observe equipment operations so that malfunctions can be detected & notify operators of any malfunctions
- Examine finished products to verify conformance to quality standards
- Remove products, machine attachments, tools or waste material from machines and work area
